PRESS RELEASE: Skateboards that make sustainability look cool, july 2021
WASTEBOARDS; THE WORLD’S FRIST CRUISERS THAT MAKES SUSTAINABILITY EVEN LOOK COOLER
We all know that plastic pollution in our oceans and on land is a growing problem. WasteBoards wants to turn this tide. Not only by making very good cruiser boards from plastic waste, but also by using the specific looks of their recycled material, which makes every WasteBoard look fantastic. WasteBoards is the first to use plastic bottle caps tom make a skateboard from. The team has been working on their innovative skateboard for 5 years and now deliver WasteBoards all over the world. Everywhere where people want to âjoin the rideâ to show that recycling is not only necessary, but also very cool.
SUSTAINABLE CRUISERS
WasteBoards is a new sustainable cruiser board brand from Amsterdam and the first to create design skateboards from plastic bottle caps. They collect these bottle caps together with skateboarders, visitors of music events, school kids, companies, you name it. Each WasteBoard is made by hand and each design is unique, because no single-color pattern is the same as any other.
AN INNOVATIVE PROCESS
In 2015 WasteBoards started with the question: âcan we make a skateboard from plastic waste?â Together with the University of Applied Sciences of Amsterdam they developed a prototype. And they continued their development with a group of Amsterdam based semi pro street skaters. It took WasteBoards over five years to create a flawless production method to maintain their innovative design based on the colorful melted plastic cap patterns while having the right strength and stiffness. WasteBoards is not just an inspiration to many product makers but entering the global skateboard market as the worldâs first and coolest circular plastic cruiser board brand.
A QUALITY CRUISER BOARD
âOur first goal is to show people that plastic waste is a great material for new cool products. We want to become a real alternative for other less sustainable skateboards. If we want to create a more sustainable world, we need to make great quality products from recycled materials. Only then we can make it attractive for people to make more sustainable choices.â Says Rogier Heijning, co-founder of WasteBoards.
THE PRODUCT IS TELLING THE STORY
âWe have outgrown the gimmicky perception that is always associated these kinds of sustainable products. It is very difficult to create a sustainable product that can be produced on a larger scale while still having a distinctive look that tells the story of the product: from waste to product. To be able to produce a cool looking skateboard that shows the problem and solution in one, thatâs our real achievement I thinkâ says Rogier.
BIG DREAMS
But the guys from WasteBoars dream big. Today they bake boards in a small factory in The Netherlands. They aim to have their next WasteBoard Bakery somewhere in the world like the favelas in Rio de Janeiro or the slumps of Delhi. By doing so they will raise awareness for the global plastic pollution problem whilst creating economic value on a local basis. Everyone can help make their dream come true by purchasing a unique skateboard via www.wasteboards.com
PRESS RELEASE: Wasteboards is ready for the ride in America, june 2021
WasteBoards is ready for the ride in America
WasteBoards is an innovative skateboard brand from Amsterdam and the world’s first to make design cruiser boards from recycled plastic bottle caps. They collect these bottle caps together with skateboarders, visitors to music events, school children, companies, you name it. Each WasteBoard is baked by hand. And every design is unique, because no caps pattern is the same. Now, after 5 years of intensive testing and development WasteBoards are ready to be introduced in America. For this occasion, they created a special limited edition board: âLiberty Cruiserâ.
The most innovative sustainable skateboard
In 2015, the guys behind WasteBoards started asking: âcan we make a skateboard out of plastic waste?â Together with the School of Applied Sciences of Amsterdam they developed a cruiser board prototype from recycled plastic bottle caps. Their development continued together with a group of Amsterdam semi-pro street skaters. It took WasteBoards more than five years to create an impeccable production method to maintain their innovative design based on the colorful patterns of molten plastic caps and with the right strength and flexibility.
WasteBoards is ready for America
The skateboard was first introduced in The Netherlands in 2016. Since then, they improved their innovative design and production method. Now all is perfected WasteBoards is ready to enter the US skateboard market, the sacred land of skateboarding, to become the worldâs first and coolest circular plastic cruiser board brand. They will operate from their base in Atlanta from where they will service the whole country.
THE EXCLUSIVE âLIBERTY CRUISERâ BOARD
To celebrate this introduction, they created a special limited edition; the âLiberty Cruiserâ WasteBoard. The design of the board is based on the colors of the American flag that symbolizes liberty and opportunity. But with that comes the responsibility to protect each other and the land and sea we live in. A message that WasteBoards fully embraces and wants to convey with this special cruiser board.
No sustainability without quality anymore
âOur first goal is to show people that plastic waste is a great material for new cool products. We want to become a real alternative to other, less sustainable skateboards. So if we want to create a more sustainable world, we need to make high quality products. Only then can we make it attractive for people to make more sustainable choices.â says Rogier Heijning, co-founder of WasteBoards.
âThe world has outgrown the gimmicky perception that is always associated with sustainable products. People demand great quality and a fair price for everything they buy. Although it is very difficult to make a sustainable product that can be produced on a larger scale it is our ambition to be as sustainable as possible. And we want to keep that distinctive look that tells the story: from waste to product. Perhaps most of the industry, governments and even some people are not ready yet, we are not afraid to pioneer, to ride that first wave of sustainability and leadâ says Rogier.
Cleaning up and creating jobs
The guys from WasteBoards dream big. Today they bake their cruiser boards in a small factory near Amsterdam. They aim to have their next WasteBoard bakery somewhere in the world, like the favelas in Rio de Janeiro, the slumps of Delhi or maybe in Venice beach in LA. By doing this, they will raise awareness of the global problem of plastic pollution while creating economic value on a local basis. Every WasteBoards customer will supports this mission by purchasing their unique cruiser board through wasteboards.com
